Shadow of the Blade
Shadow of the Blade is a documentary built around a single restored Vietnam-era UH-1 “Huey” helicopter — the aircraft that carried, supplied, and so often saved the infantry who fought on the ground. The film follows that helicopter on a journey across America, bringing Vietnam veterans back together and giving them a place to remember the men they served with.
For the Wolfhounds, the Huey is part of the story. The men of the 2nd Battalion rode those aircraft into every fire support base and every landing zone along the Cambodian border, flown by crews like the Hornets of the 116th Assault Helicopter Company. The sound of the rotor blades is one that every Wolfhound remembers.
Kermit Schayltz asked that Shadow of the Blade be remembered here, alongside the Wolfhounds’ own story. If you have a link to the film or footage you would like featured on this page, please get in touch.
